Haier heat pump in an Aylesbury garden gym and office
This Aylesbury home has a timber garden building used as a gym and home office. A Haier wall-mounted heat pump now keeps it fully heated through the winter, so it can be used every day of the year, and cools it in summer, when a timber room in the sun can get uncomfortably hot for a workout or a day at the desk.

How we fitted it
- Survey. We looked at the size of the garden room, how it is used, and where the outdoor unit and pipework could go.
- Indoor unit. Fixed high on the timber wall just below the beams, where it spreads warm or cool air across the whole room.
- Outdoor unit. Set on a solid concrete plinth on the gravel beside the building, on anti-vibration feet.
- Pipework. Run down the outside of the cladding in neat trunking to the outdoor unit.
- Pressure test and commissioning. The pipework was pressure tested and vacuumed before the refrigerant was released, then heating and cooling were both tested and the Haier app set up, by an F-Gas certified engineer.
Why a heat pump suits a garden room
Garden rooms are usually lightly built, so they lose heat quickly in winter and overheat in summer sun. A plug-in heater struggles and is expensive to run all day. A heat pump warms the room in minutes, holds a steady temperature for a workout or a working day, and runs in reverse to cool it in summer, all from a remote or the Haier app. More about heating a garden room.
