Conservatory Air Conditioning Installation

Cool in summer, warm in winter — Haier air conditioning sized for your conservatory's glazing and orientation, not just its floor area.

Conservatories are one of the most common reasons people contact us. South or west-facing conservatories in particular get genuinely uncomfortable through a UK summer, and just as uncomfortably cold in winter if the room is single-glazed or poorly insulated.

Who conservatory air conditioning suits

Anyone with a conservatory that's too hot to sit in for much of the summer, too cold to use for half the year, or that's become an expensive-to-heat room nobody actually uses. It suits older conservatories with basic glazing as well as newer, better-insulated garden rooms with a conservatory-style glazed roof.

Heating and cooling benefits

A single small split system usually resolves both problems in one go: cooling the room properly in summer instead of relying on doors, blinds and fans, and providing genuine, fast heating in winter so the room becomes usable year-round rather than three seasons out of four.

Sizing considerations for a conservatory

Conservatories behave differently to a normal room of the same floor area — more glazing means more heat gain in summer and more heat loss in winter, so sizing has to account for glazing area and orientation, not just square footage. A south-facing, fully-glazed conservatory typically needs more cooling capacity than a similarly sized north-facing room with solid walls.

Noise and indoor unit positioning

Indoor unit positioning in a conservatory is often more constrained than in a normal room, since much of the wall area is glazed. We work out the best available wall space at survey — usually the section adjoining the house — to keep the pipe run short and the unit out of direct eyeline where possible.

Outdoor unit and pipe-routing considerations

Conservatory installs usually route pipework through the adjoining house wall rather than through the conservatory's own frame, keeping the visible run to a minimum. Condensate drainage needs a suitable route away from the building, which we plan at survey along with the outdoor unit's position — typically on the ground or wall-mounted close to the conservatory's junction with the main house.

0% VAT on qualifying installations. Since 2022, HMRC has applied a temporary 0% VAT rate to the supply and installation of qualifying energy-saving materials in residential properties, including reversible air-to-air heat pump systems — and most air conditioning units qualify, since they heat as well as cool. The relief runs until 31 March 2027. Eligibility depends on the property and installation; this isn't tax advice, and we'll confirm the correct VAT treatment on your written quote. Common questions

Why does my conservatory need a bigger system than a similar-sized room?
Glazing area and orientation drive heat gain and loss much more than in a solid-walled room, so a fully-glazed, south-facing conservatory typically needs more cooling capacity than floor area alone would suggest.
Where does the indoor unit go if most of the walls are glass?
Usually on the wall section adjoining the house, which also keeps the pipe run short. We assess the available wall space at survey.
Can the system heat the conservatory in winter?
Yes — it's a reversible heat pump, so the same unit provides fast heating in winter as well as cooling in summer.
Does the pipework run through the conservatory frame?
Usually not — we typically route pipework through the adjoining house wall instead, to minimise the visible run through the conservatory's own frame.
Does conservatory air conditioning qualify for 0% VAT?
Many qualifying residential installations currently benefit from the government's temporary 0% VAT relief, depending on the property and installation.
How long does a conservatory installation take?
A straightforward single-unit installation is typically completed in a day, subject to survey.
