Haier 3.5kW heat pump at the top of the stairs in Bicester
Rather than one unit per room, this Bicester home has a single Haier 3.5kW wall-mounted heat pump at the top of the stairs. From that shared landing it moves warm or cool air into the rooms around it, so one system helps heat the house in winter and cool it in summer.

How we fitted it
- Survey. We looked at the layout and chose the landing as the central point where one unit could reach the most space, sized at 3.5kW.
- Indoor unit. Fixed high on the wall at the top of the stairs.
- Outdoor unit. Mounted on a wall bracket on the outside wall, with a separate isolator switch fitted below it.
- Pipework. Run in black trunking to match the black guttering and downpipes.
- Pressure test and commissioning. The pipework was pressure tested and vacuumed before the refrigerant was released, then heating and cooling were both tested and the Haier app set up, by an F-Gas certified engineer.
Why the landing?
Warm air rises up the stairwell and the landing connects most of the rooms upstairs, so a unit placed there can do a lot of work from one position. It suits homes that want a lift in comfort across the house without the cost of a unit in every room. If you would rather treat rooms individually, a multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit.
This is our second install in Bicester recently, after a bedroom on our £1,195 offer. See air conditioning in Bicester for the villages we cover.
